Target Audience

The courses at IMA are tailored for Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Licensed Practical Nurse, Physician's Assistant, or MD who already have previous training, education, and experience and are ready to take their career in a new direction. Because Medical Aesthetics is a growing and evolving discipline, it requires additional training and education on top of what you learned in nursing school. The insight you take away from your IMA course will prepare you to perform the latest and most advanced skincare procedures on paying clients. You will also learn how market your new talents and become either a revenue-producing entrepreneur or a thriving member of an already established medical office.

Course Overview

IMA offers a basic 5-day course that covers four modules. This course is the best value, at a savings of $2,000 off all the other modules when taken individually. Each day is eight hours long, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There is also the opportunity of interning for one day (eight hours) or three days. (The days do not have to be consecutive.) All sessions taught at the school are didactic with lecture and slides, as well as hands-on with real clients. Be prepared to work on live clients and other students.

The courses at IMA will provide you with the opportunity to tap into a network of RN pioneers, entrepreneurs, and like-minded individuals, all supporting each other in the ever-expanding nursing field. This unique setting will position you for diverse employment opportunities in a cosmetic practice or medical office. You will:

  • Have a clear comprehension of all the equipment
  • Know how to use the necessary tools
  • Be able to recommend procedures by identifying your clients’ problem areas
  • Market your skills to get a great job

FAQs

Q:  Are you nationally certified?
A:  There currently is no national board that governs the learning requirements in the field of Medical Aesthetics. The certificate that you earn from IMA at the completion of individual modules or the intensive 5-day course is valid according to the rules of each state, much like a massage therapy certification.

Q:  Do you provide job placement?
A:  While IMA does not provide job placement, taking classes at the institute widens your network of contacts in the field, thus giving you a better opportunity of finding a great job yourself. We give you the practical skills needed to operate advanced technology and apply this knowledge to treating your patients safely and effectively. We prepare our students to leverage their nursing or physician’s assistant background with the knowledge and clinical skills they take from our classes to pursue careers in a medical spa, a dermatologist’s office, a plastic surgeon’s office, or in starting their own cosmedical practice.

Q:  Upon completing this course what do I get?
A:  When you complete an individual module or the full 5-day course, you receive a certificate that says that you have been properly trained in the specific area of study. You can present this certificate to potential employers, insurance companies, and future clients.

Q:  How many CEUs (Continuing Education Credits) do I get?
A:  Currently IMA does not provide CEUs.

Q: What can I expect for a pay rate going into cosmetic practice?
A:  The pay scale varies from state to state. Variables include urban and suburban area, payment (based on commission or salary), scale and size of medical spa, and menu of serviced offered.

T
he skills I acquired at IMA with Claire McArdle have enabled me to transition from a hospital setting to the medical spa environment. Now I have the freedom to do what I love—help others—in a peaceful environment and a career that allows for work-life balance.”
